"Welcome on board"
We've all heard it. We've probably all said it too. Why? Because we all know what it's like to start a new job.
First day nerves, unfamiliar surroundings, new faces, an uncertain future. In these circumstances, any kind of warm welcome is going to help you get to grips with your new position.
And that's what the onboarding process is all about: bridging the gap between securing a job and starting it - easing the transition into a new role, building relationships with new colleagues, and giving you the best possible chance to hit the ground running.
It is, however, a process that is all too often overlooked.
Having spent significant amounts of time and money on identifying, attracting and recruiting the best talent, employers will more often than not do very little, if anything, to protect their investment before they start.
They might speak on the phone a bit, send the odd letter or two, perhaps even meet up once or twice; but on the whole, new hires will be left to their own devices, drifting through their notice period and occupying that strange limbo in which you don't really work for one organisation or the other.
A few employers, on the other hand, will run a comprehensive, formal onboarding programme, providing a range of different measures and opportunities that will help new employees feel at home before they even start, securing a confident, motivated, productive addition to their team from day one.
One such measure - and it's a highly effective one - is to create an online resource; a password protected onboarding website that provides a personalised environment in which new hires can start making themselves comfortable. And that's where we come in.
Welcome on board.
